Tips to Inspire Healthy Family Habits

Healthy habits really do start at home, but we understand how tricky it can be some days when a takeout is the easiest option or the best way to keep the kids happy when you’re tired and feel the beginnings of a headache coming on.

 But if you truly want you and your family to live a healthier life, you need to be willing to put the work in and the best way to do this is to look at this as a group project.

 In this article we’ll share a few ways you and your family can work together to live a healthier and happier life.

 What better time than January to set the tone for the year ahead?

Let your kids get involved

You know when your kids wander over, ask what’s for dinner then saunter away grumbling incoherently under their breath when the answer is not to their satisfaction?  We think you can relate!  Meals should never be boring or something you don’t look forward to.

Why not do some research, find some delicious healthy recipes online then take the kids along to help you grab the ingredients?

 Show them some healthy options, like nut butters and fruits and allow them to make some of their own choices. Kids love to feel involved and are far more likely to actually eat the food you buy if they had a hand in choosing it. 

 Whatever works, right!

Experiment in the kitchen

Do not fall into the trap of rotating two meals all week long.

This will bore you as much as the kids and honestly, healthy doesn’t have to be boring!

Pasta is always a great idea and this one is super healthy but tasty too and a lot of fun for the whole family to enjoy.

Why not experiment by substituting your favorite sweet ingredients for healthier alternatives and whip up a quick and easy dessert that will blow everyone away!

Encourage a weekly family activity 

In this day and age, it’s easier to find your family members by calling them on their phones because everyone is glued to their screens.

Try and plan one day a week, whenever you can gather everyone together, and arrange to put the phones away while you guys enjoy a family activity together. 

You can get moving by going on a weekend hike or even play a board game!

It’s a great mental health break from your phone and a wonderful way to bond.
